Zakat / Sadaqah / Gift Aid

Zakat is one of the five pillars of Islam and a duty for every adult Muslim who owns wealth above a set amount, known as the Nisab. This means giving 2.5 percent of that wealth to support those in need.

When you give your Zakat through our organisation, you are helping vulnerable brothers and sisters who are struggling to meet their basic needs. Your donation provides real support, dignity and hope to people who need it most.

We take great care to ensure that all Zakat is collected and distributed in line with Islamic principles and the traditional rules of Zakat distribution. Transparency, care and trust are central to everything we do.

We operate a 100 percent Zakat donation policy. This means that every penny of your Zakat reaches eligible recipients, without deductions, inshallah.

You can also increase the impact of your donation through Gift Aid.
By completing a Gift Aid declaration, you allow us to claim an extra 25 percent on eligible donations from the UK Government.

Gift Aid helps your Zakat and other donations go even further, supporting more people and changing more lives.

Sadaqah and the difference between Sadaqah and Zakat

When can you give Sadaqah?
Sadaqah can be given at any time of the year and in any amount. It is a voluntary act of charity and worship, making it one of the most flexible and beautiful ways to give. Whether times are easy or difficult, your Sadaqah is always valuable and always rewarded.
Who benefits from Sadaqah?
Sadaqah can be used wherever there is a genuine need. It supports projects and programmes that improve lives, ease hardship and bring benefit to individuals, families and communities. Every contribution, no matter the size, can make a real difference.
What is the difference between Sadaqah and Zakat?
Sadaqah is completely voluntary. You can give any amount, at any time, according to your ability and intention. Zakat, on the other hand, is an obligation for Muslims whose wealth reaches or exceeds the Nisab threshold. It is calculated yearly and given at a fixed rate of 2.5 percent on eligible assets.
What is the best way to give Sadaqah?
There is no single “best” way, but consistency is highly valued. Even small, regular acts of giving are deeply loved by Allah. As the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:
“The most beloved of deeds to Allah are those that are most consistent, even if they are small.” (Bukhari)
Setting up regular donations can be a simple way to build ongoing reward while providing steady support to those in need.
How many forms of Sadaqah are there?
Sadaqah is not limited to money. It includes giving your time, sharing your skills, offering a kind word, smiling at someone, or helping to ease another person’s difficulty. Financial Sadaqah, however, remains one of the most direct ways to support those who are struggling physically, emotionally, or financially.
Can Sadaqah be given to a mosque or charity?
Yes. Sadaqah can be given to a mosque, a community organisation, or any charitable cause that benefits people and serves the common good.
Does giving Sadaqah reduce your wealth?
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught that charity does not decrease wealth. Rather, it brings barakah, honour and spiritual growth. Many scholars explain that Allah replaces what is given in ways that may not always be visible, but are always meaningful.
Can you give Sadaqah during difficult times?
Yes and it is especially encouraged. Giving Sadaqah during hardship is a source of protection and comfort. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
“Give charity without delay, for it stands in the way of calamity.” (Tirmidhi)
By giving Sadaqah, you offer relief to others while placing your trust in Allah (Azzawajal) turning compassion into lasting reward.
